Art...
What is art? This was the question I was hoping to answer when I signed up for this course. Haha kidding, I'm not that pretentious. Here's really why I joined this class. I always knew that art has been one of my major interests but it has never really moved beyond being a hobby. I guess I joined this class because I wanted to change that. Someone once told me that if you enjoy what you do, you will become successful in it. I have a passion for art, and by joining this class I would be able to spend two years doing something I love. The first time I walked into the IB HL Art class I was absolutely amazed and honestly quite intimidated. My classmates' work were all so impressive! They certainly had much more skills and they are much much more experienced than me. Despite their artwork being extremely intimidating, everyone in the class warmly welcomed me. I made a lot of good friends. Because art involves a lot of discussion, I feel that i've gotten to know my classmates a lot more and I feel that my art class has sort of become my family. With little experience and a lack of skill, IB Art HL has been very challenging. But with the help of my classmates and teachers, I was able to push through it for year, and i've been able to enjoy most of it. The first project for me was a real eye opener. I never realised that art could be so much work! We had to do a lot of writing for our IWB and we had to create a visually stunning studio piece. I realised the amount of research that needed to go into creating a meaningful and insightful art piece. I was introduced to the idea that art had to signify something, or in other words art had to say something. I could comment on society, people, issues or anything. I was used to the idea of art being just for the sake of creating aesthetically appealing things. This means that to be able to create art, you really need to know what you are talking about which requires research. In my first piece, my topic was the foreign influences that shaped Thai culture. I had to research this topic. Being a Thai kid who has lived in foreign countries most of his life, I think this project has made me get more in touch with my Thainess and made me learn more about my country.
